Sun Valley Wedding Planner
As Craig and Taylor’s Sun Valley Wedding planner, I rose to the challenge of planning the most epic wedding for these larger than life personalities. When I first met Craig and Taylor, they told me that their top priority when planning their Sun Valley Wedding at Trail Creek Pavilion was to have the most fun wedding ever. They wanted the best party of all time and never wanted a dull moment for their guests. Creating a dream wedding experience for their guests was such a blast.
Destination Wedding in the Mountains of Sun Valley Idaho
Choosing wedding vendors who will make your destination wedding seamless in Sun Valley is key. A team of professional vendors experienced in expert customer service will make your guests feel so special, problem solve on the fly, and take care of you.
I recommend these amazing vendors who made Taylor and Craig’s Sun Valley Wedding a breeze:
In Craig and Taylor’s Words
How did you and your partner meet & fall in love?
We went to Boise High School together but didn’t really get to know one another until 6 years later when we ran into each other in New York City.
From there things started off slow for a few months until I asked Taylor to take a leap of faith and come spend a week visiting me in NYC. I had a week to sweep her off her feet and make her fall in love with me… and the rest is history.
What was the first decision you made when planning your wedding?
The first thing we decided was picking our Sun Valley wedding venue. We knew we were going to have a lot of friends coming to Idaho for the first time. Therefore, we wanted to showcase as much of what we love about Idaho as possible.
What were your priorities when planning your wedding day? What was most important to you about your wedding?
The top priorities were making it easy and a fun/seamless experience for our guests. We wanted the flow of the events from beginning to end to be fluid and to never have any lulls so that the energy and fun would just keep building throughout the night.
Why did you choose to get married at your wedding venue?
Trail Creek Pavilion at Sun Valley is gorgeous. We love Idaho’s natural beauty and Trail Creek checked off all our boxes from the aspen grove, to the cabin with a bridge over a creek, to the ceremony grass centered right on Bald Mountain. We were in our own little world for the day but we still had the infrastructure of an airport and hotels for everyone to be able to get to the venue easily.
What feeling or moment sticks out the MOST from your wedding day? What part of the day had the most effect on you or your relationship?
We will always remember our amazing Sun Valley wedding ceremony and the speeches from our friends and family. Craig’s sibling wrote an extremely heartfelt and meaningful ceremony. Similarly, our friends and family shared stories and well wishes that made us feel so special and loved! Also, we LOVED the oyster bar and ice luge—SO FUN.
What design element stood out the most to you? What inspired the design of your wedding?
Neither of us are particularly design-oriented so we greatly appreciated Sam’s strong eye for design, endless ideas, and support throughout the process. We wanted the decor to feel timeless and classy and Sam’s vision completely captured this.
How did you pick your wedding vendors?
There were a few vendors that were immediate matches for what we knew we wanted, for example, our amazing wedding planner and designer Sam Gray, photographer (Vlad Radion), videographer (Kyle Hustis), and our incredible band (Vinyl Jam). However, many of the other vendors we used we found through Sam. Sam helped us pick, based off our needs and every vendor we used ended up going above and beyond our expectations
Do you have any advice for couples choosing a Sun Valley wedding planner? What quality or strength was most important to you in a wedding planner?
Obviously, our advice is to hire Sam Gray! But, if you aren’t yet sold, try to think about what’s most important to you on your wedding day, how you want to feel, and have a conversation with your prospective planner to see if they can achieve this. People always say that things inevitably go wrong on your wedding day, but this wasn’t true for us, it was perfect, and purely because of Sam Gray and her team!
Any future advice for future couples planning a destination wedding, please share here!
There is a lot of pressure when it comes to planning a wedding. Just remember it’s going to be the best day of your life so make all the decisions based off how you want your best day to be and you’ll love how it turns out!

I’ve done my fair share of weddings in the McCall, Idaho area and I can honestly say that most of the venues there are gorgeous! 5 Things All Brides Should Look for in a Destination Wedding Planner
Are you trying to plan a destination wedding, but not sure where to start? If so, you’ve come to the right place! Not only are destination weddings exciting and unique, but they give you a chance to be creative and have fun.
Once you’ve picked the destination you want to get married, or at least know the general vicinity, it’s a good idea to start looking for a destination wedding planner. You will be spending quite a bit of time working with them, so finding someone you enjoy working with and makes you feel confident is key.
Here are 5 Things to Look for in a Destination Wedding Planner
1 - Do they fit into your budget?
Budget is important for any wedding, but especially destination weddings. Finding out if you can afford having your wedding in your chosen location and can also afford the wedding planner will be one of the first items to figure out.
Make sure to shop around and find out the industry standard for destination wedding planners in the area. If you’re hiring a wedding planner to come with you, make sure they offer the services you need and that you factor in travel into your overall budget. There can be hidden fees you might not have known about when it comes to other locations, so make sure you do some research to find out how much things should cost.
2 - Can you meet face to face or are they willing to video chat?
If the destination wedding planner you want to hire is willing to meet with you in person or over video chat, that’s a good sign. After all, you will be working together for quite a while. It’s important to get any worries you have out of the way on this first call and discuss your vision and budget to make sure you both get along. This intro call can also serve as an exit if you decide you don’t want to work with this particular vendor. If you can’t meet in person, make sure to hop on a video call to see if this wedding planner understands your vision and your personalities mesh.
3 - Are they trustworthy?
Finding someone you trust to plan your wedding is paramount when planning a destination wedding. After all, you don’t live in the location, so making sure they do research or know the area well will be the key to your success.
Sometimes your destination wedding planner will give you recommendations and suggestions that maybe you can’t see or fully grasp, but you’ll just have to trust that they have your best interest at heart. Trusting them and making sure they are clear on your vision will help your wedding come full-circle.
If you can find other people that recommend them or can find reviews online that are positive you’re well on your way to a great destination wedding planner!
4 - Do they have knowledge of the area?
Some people choose to hire their wedding planner at the location of their wedding and others choose to bring along their wedding planner from home. Either one can work, but make sure you’re asking and finding out some key information first. For example, if you’re working with someone that knows the venue well or is at your destination, you won’t have to pay for extra costs for research and understanding the venue, you might get discounts and the chances of big things going wrong might be minimized.
However, hiring someone from home and meeting them face to face to make sure you like them and can spend time with them can also trump all of the other factors of hiring someone that knows the venue. It’s totally up to you and what experience you’d like on your wedding day.
5 - Do you enjoy their personality?
This is key since you will be working with them from afar for a year on average! Making sure you like them and get along will just make everything run a lot smoother. If you feel comfortable telling them what you like and don’t like and are able to easily communicate with them, your entire wedding planning process will run a lot smoother.

Finding a destination wedding planner can be fun and having the wedding somewhere special is even better. Just make sure you find someone you enjoy spending time with and working with. Making sure they understand your vision and fit into your budget are key for a successful destination wedding!

The Wedding Planning Checklist for Sun Valley Weddings
If you’re one of the lucky couples that gets to celebrate your wedding in Sun Valley you’re in for a treat. With mountain backdrops, gorgeous landscapes and beautiful venues, you’re bound for a wonderful event.
However, planning a wedding can be daunting and knowing what to do can be even more nerve wracking. Luckily, we’ve compiled a wedding planning checklist for Sun Valley weddings in hopes to make your day that much more enjoyable.
1 Year+ Ahead
Set Your Budget
This is a great place to start when planning your Sun Valley wedding. Some venues are more expensive than others and knowing your priorities and when and where you want to get married will be key in deciding your budget. Search online for some helpful budgeting tools or feel free to reach out to a wedding planner (like Sprout Design Wedding) to see what an average budget needed would be.
Pick Your Date Range
You’ll first want to decide what year will be best for your Sun Valley wedding. Are you leaning more towards summer or winter? Knowing what general season you’d like to get married will help you narrow down what months will be best and will affect your budget slightly. Choose a few months that sound good to you and narrow it down by dates. You’ll end up having to choose dates based on your venue, but knowing a general time frame will help you make your final decision.
Figure Out Your Wedding Vision
If you haven’t started using Pinterest, now might be the time to begin! Start researching other weddings and get some magazines to determine the overall vision and vibe you’d like at your wedding. This will help you determine which venue you will want and help you portray what you’d like to your Sun Valley wedding planner.
Hire Your Sun Valley Wedding Planner
This isn’t necessary if you want to plan your own wedding, but if you’re looking for a flawless event where you get to focus on having fun and being with family and friends vs. worrying about the caterer, a wedding planner is for you. Do some research for wedding planners in the area or check out Boise to find one that will be willing to travel. You can also contact us at sproutdesignwedding.com for a quote.
Create Your Guest List Draft + Ask Your Wedding Party
Figuring out your guest list can be daunting, but making a rough draft of the amount of people you’d like to invite will help you determine how many people can fit at your venue.
You’ll also want to ask your wedding party to be part of your wedding once you know a few more details. Ask them in a special way or just call them and let them know how excited you are to have them in your life.
Find and Book Your Sun Valley Wedding Venue
Many people think this is the hardest part of planning a wedding which is why we recommend having a wedding planner by now to help you with this process. Check out some of our favorite Sun Valley wedding venues here. Make sure the venue gives off the wedding vibes you want and that it is within the budget you decided in the beginning.
Start Meeting With Wedding Vendors
Your wedding planner will help a lot with timelines and will help with vendors, but once you’ve chosen your wedding party, it's time to start working on deciding your caterers, photographers, videographers, musicians, florists, and bakers in your area. Check out their online profiles to make sure they are what you want.
9 Months+ Ahead
When you have a wedding planner you’ll be stress free when deciding on timeline. Here are some things to think about when you’re 9+ months before your wedding:
Shop for your wedding dress
Reserve your hotel and rooms
Create a registry and wedding website
Send out save the dates
4-6 Months+ Ahead
It’s getting much closer to your wedding! Be sure to do the following 6+ months ahead of the special day.
Decide on Groom, Groomsmen and Bridesmaid’s attire
Determine wedding invites
Choose your wedding bands
Begin honeymoon planning
Pick your wedding hair and makeup
2- 3+ Months Ahead
You’re getting even closer! Here’s what we recommend you do in month 3.
Select a Rehearsal Dinner location
Mail out your wedding invites
Have your wedding dress fitting
Plan your Bachelorette/Bachelor parties
Create your wedding playlist
Order wedding favors
1 Month Ahead
Your wedding is only 1 month away! It’s time to crank out a few last minute items before the big day.
Finalize your wedding vows
Gather up your RSVP’s and final headcount
Create your wedding day timeline with your planner
Finalize your seating chart
Buy gifts for your significant other and your groomsmen and bridesmaids
1 Week Ahead
Things are starting to get real! Here’s what to do 1 week before you say I do!
Pick up your wedding dress
Get your marriage license
Check in with your vendors
Wedding Day!!
If all goes as planned, you should be able to have a wonderful and flawless wedding day. Make sure you eat, get your hair and makeup done and try and stay on schedule. Once you’re married, have the best time celebrating the best day of your life, oh and don’t forget to dance the night away!

Did You Just Get Engaged? Here’s What to Do Next
Congratulations! The fact that you’ve landed here means that you probably just got engaged and are super excited! This is such a special and exciting time for you and we wanted to make sure it stays that way by providing you with a detailed list of what to do next! Below we’ve given you a step by step guide to everything you need to do now that you’re engaged to make sure everything runs smoothly before your special day.
Reach out to your closest family and friends
After your engagement and before you spread the news to everyone you know, now is the best time to tell your family members and close friends of your exciting engagement! Many times it helps to contact these people before the news hits social media so they feel included and part of your special moment! After that, feel free to share it out to the masses and let everyone know about your special engagement.
Start thinking about your wedding vibe and colors
Now the fun part begins! Start thinking about the overall vibe of your wedding and what you want your day to look like. Use tools like Pinterest or Canva to create a mood board and come up with ideas for details. Maybe even take a wedding quiz to find out your ideal style and start scouring wedding magazines. All of these avenues will help you figure out your color scheme and your overall vision will start coming to life!
Create a budget
This may not be the most fun part of a wedding, but it is super important when starting to plan a wedding! Sit down together and flesh out a realistic budget. There are many budget tools like this one that you can use for planning your special day as well. You can also scour the web for articles to help you stay on budget, help you figure out where to save, and help you determine where hidden expenses may arise.
Create a guest list
Once you’ve created your budget you now need to figure out who you want at your wedding. It’s time to create your guest list! This will be a must-have before you start meeting with vendors or venues mainly because it will help determine what venue your wedding guests will fit in. Our advice is to create a list of everyone you can think of to invite and then go through and try to cut down the list down. If you didn’t think of the person off the top of your head in the beginning, they might be someone you could cut out. Here’s a great resource to help you narrow down your list.
Get your engagement photos taken
Now is the time to start thinking about your save the dates and determining if you want engagement photos for those save the dates. Not everyone gets engagement photos taken, but many couples think it’s fun to have these photos of them right after their engagement for years to come. If you do decide to get them, try doing it earlier rather than later to allow time for editing and developing your save the date’s.
Get a wedding planner
If you’re a bride and groom looking for a wedding planner, this is a good time to pick one out. Here are some of our tips for hiring the best wedding planner. You can also hire one earlier in the process to help you with the above steps, but hiring one now will help you create a timeline, help you solidify your budget and will help turn your vision into a reality. Many couples get overwhelmed by all of the decisions that they must make for their wedding like flowers, DJ, linens, food and cutlery that they can’t even focus on the fact that they are getting married. Having a good wedding planner will help relieve this stress up to the event and on the day of your wedding. If you’re looking for a wedding planner, visit Sprout Design Wedding for more information and offerings.
Choose a venue and set a date
Many times your wedding planner will help with this, but if you don’t have a wedding planner, this is when you’ll want to start figuring out where you want to get married. We recommend setting up a few appointments over a few days to view venues and walk through them in person. See how the layout can be transformed and if it plays along to the overall wedding vision you have. Find out how friendly the staff is and how easy they will be to work with. Also determine what is included and what isn’t. The most important part is to do this as early as you can because some venues book up well over a year in advance. If you have your perfect venue, you'll want to make sure it is free on the dates you’d like to get married.
Get organized for the big day
Now is the time to get organized and determine the timeline leading up to your wedding. Again, your wedding planner will help with this, but if you’re doing it alone there are many guides and templates online that will help you create a plan. Next steps include finding a wedding dress, determining your bridesmaids and groomsmen, sending out save the dates and determining all of the details of the actual wedding event.
This is just the start of your wonderful life together and your magical wedding! 12 Wedding Traditions and What They Really Mean
Most wedding traditions are so commonplace and customary that we don’t truly think about why we do them. For example, why do we do a garter toss and why does the bride walk down the aisle with a veil? These are just a few wedding traditions that have become so common that we sometimes don’t question them. In this blog post we’re going to dive into these sometimes wacky traditions and share where they came from and why they’ve withheld the test of time.
1 - The Bridal Bouquet
Did you know that back in ancient times the bridal bouquet was made with herbs, garlic and flowers and was there to ward off evil spirits? Again, we’re thinking of ancient times when people were a lot more superstitious and wanted to protect the couple from any harm. Not only that, but back when bathing wasn’t common, they also served as a potpourri to make the bride smell nicer as she walked down the aisle. Who knew!?
2 - The Wedding Veil
The wedding veil has a wild history and dates back to arranged marriages! Typically the bride and groom wouldn’t meet until the actual wedding ceremony. So, the woman would wear a veil over her face as she walked down the aisle. Once she was actually married, the veil would come off. This would help stop the groom from bailing from the engagement if he didn’t like her looks! Wow!
3 - The White Wedding Dress
This is a somewhat easier one to figure out, but since the white stands for purity, the white dress is typically linked to virgin brides. However, many years ago, brides wore red dresses. White didn’t catch on until Queen Victoria wore white at her wedding in the 1800’s and white has been common ever since.
4 - Something Old, New, Borrowed, & Blue
This is a tradition that goes back to the Victorian era where they thought that all four of these items would bring good fortune and luck to the bride. Something old was worn so that the bride could showcase something from her past, something new was to signify her new journey and new family. Something borrowed was supposedly taken from a happy married coupled so that their happy vibes could be transferred over to this couple. Lastly, something blue was the symbol for loyalty and faithfulness to the marriage.
5 - Flower Girl
Funny enough, the flower girl used to be a young virgin that would bring wheat down the aisle. At that time, wheat symbolized good fortune and was said to help the couple have a wonderful marriage. Nowadays flowers have been replaced by wheat.
6 - Wedding Cake
Did you know what cake and fertility have in common? Cake represents fertility! Back in Roman times, people would bake cakes to ensure fertility as a couple. They would also break the cake over the bride’s head or stack the cakes on top of each other so high and have the bride and groom kiss over the stacked cakes. If they could do it, they were awarded with a lifetime of happiness.
7 - Shower of Rice
Rice is a symbol of good fortune and prosperity. Showering rice on the couple after the wedding is a symbol of sending them off with good luck and fortune. Nowadays, couples have resorted to things like fireworks, bubbles and noise makers.
8 - Bridesmaids & Groomsmen
In ancient times the purpose of having bridesmaids were to protect the bride. All of the bridesmaids would dress the same as the bride in order to confuse evil spirits. That way the bride would be protected from evil spirits on her wedding day. The purpose of groomsmen came from protecting the bride. They were warriors set to make sure no one kidnapped the bride.
9 - Honeymoon
Honeymoon’s are now becoming more exciting to some couples than the actual wedding! Back in the day, many cultures used to use the moon cycle as their calendar. The newlyweds on their first moon of marriage would drink honey wine therefore deriving the word ‘honeymoon’. Our present day honeymoon’s sound a lot better don’t they?
10 - Bouquet Toss & Garter Toss
The bouquet toss trends back to the 14th century when couples used to consummate their marriage right after they said their vows. Throwing the bouquet was typically used as a distraction to the wedding guests and the single ladies would fight over the flower bouquet. The garter toss was usually a verification that the deed was done and the groom would throw it out to the crowd signifying proof that it happened.
11 - Wedding Ring
The circle of a wedding ring stands for eternity and it is placed on the 4th finger on the left hand because it’s the only hand with a vein connecting straight to the heart. Nowadays diamonds are used for engagement rings as they symbolize eternity because they are the hardest gems on earth.
12 - Walking Over the Threshold
In ancient times it was considered unladylike for women to outwardly express or show that she wanted to leave her family and father’s home. So this is where the threshold came into play where the groom would actually pick her up and force her across the threshold of his home.

What All Brides Should Look for in a Boise Wedding Planner
It’s not every day that you get to plan your dream wedding, but doing so without a wedding planner can be a bit stressful. Luckily, hiring a wedding planner in Boise, Idaho couldn’t be easier. If you’re one of the lucky people getting married in Idaho or the surrounding areas, we’ve got you covered with what to look for before hiring a Boise wedding planner.
Initial Consultation
A free consultation is typically pretty standard with Boise wedding planners, but if someone doesn’t offer a free consultation it might be a bit of a red flag. Sometimes just speaking over the phone or seeing them online is enough, but trying to meet in person is a great way to determine if they are a good fit for you. Schedule a meeting to go over what your initial thoughts are, your budget, and your overall wedding vibes. This will help you determine if this wedding planner is a good fit and will be able to make your wedding go smoothly.
Personality
This can be a big factor when determining your Boise wedding planner. Making sure you get along and enjoy being around your wedding planner is important. Afterall, you will be spending an average of one year together working to plan your wedding! Make sure you’re comfortable with them and that you can communicate effectively with one another. This will be key in making sure your wedding day runs smoothly.
Included Services
Your Boise wedding planner services can make or break who you want to work with. Be sure you know what type of help you are looking for before you meet with potential planners. Some brides prefer to only have a day-of coordinator while others enjoy having a full-service wedding planner. Figure out what you actually have time and budget for and what you feel like you can’t tackle yourself. Sometimes it’s a good idea to let your potential wedding planner know what your planning or creative strengths are. This will help to see if their expertise can help where you’re skills are lacking and if their service packages fit into your vision.
Planner’s Background
Check out your planner’s online presence beforehand to see what weddings they've done in the past and what you think about their aesthetic and vibe. This will help you determine if they would be a good fit to plan your wedding. See if they’ve done weddings at venues you like, or have worked with couples with a similar style. This will help when determining who you want to work with for your event.
Preparedness & Initial Response Time
Learning how prepared and responsive your wedding planner is in the beginning will probably be a testament to how responsive and prepared they will be throughout the wedding process. Make sure you like the way they communicate and try figuring out how you would prefer to communicate with them through the wedding planning process.
Willingness to Travel and Knows the Area
This may not be the most important step, but it can be a valuable one. Is your potential wedding planner willing to travel and do they have contacts in the area? Many times wedding planners are willing to travel to other states and venues to manage your wedding. Destination weddings are popular and some wedding planners may not be able to travel for your wedding. Make sure your planner can travel to your wedding if a destination wedding is what you’re looking for.
